Hold Fast: A Devotional on Hebrews 10:19-25

Approaching God with Confidence

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, His body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings…”Hebrews 10:19-22a (NIV)

Life has a way of shaking us. Circumstances beyond our control can stir up anxiety, frustration, and doubt. When that happens, our natural instinct is often to grasp for control—trying to fix, manage, or predict outcomes as if we hold the power. But Hebrews 10:19-25 reminds us of a truth that should anchor our faith: we are not in control—God is.

Through Jesus, we have access to God Himself. We don’t have to navigate trials on our own or rely on our ability to manage situations. Christ has already made the way for us to draw near to God with confidence, knowing that He is sovereign over all things. When we struggle with uncertainty, we must choose faith in God’s power rather than faith in our own strength.

Holding Firm to the Right Anchor

“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”Hebrews 10:23

Difficult seasons often expose where our faith truly rests. If we trust in our own abilities, people’s approval, or favorable circumstances, then when those things waver, so does our faith. But when we anchor ourselves in God’s unchanging promises, we can endure even the most difficult trials.

God never asks us to control everything—He asks us to trust Him completely. The same God who moves mountains, parts seas, and raises the dead is the One who holds your life in His hands. He is faithful, even when we struggle to see it.

Instead of holding on tightly to things we cannot control, Hebrews urges us to hold unswervingly to the hope we profess—the hope that is found in Christ alone.

Encouraging One Another in Faith

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”Hebrews 10:24-25

Faith is not meant to be lived in isolation. When challenges arise, it is easy to withdraw, to try to handle everything alone. But God calls us to lean into Christian community—to encourage one another, to remind each other of truth, and to walk in faith together.

Who in your life can encourage you to hold fast to God’s promises? And who might need encouragement from you today? Faith is strengthened when believers walk together, reminding each other that God is faithful even when life feels uncertain.

Final Reflection

If you’re in a season where control feels like the only way forward, take a deep breath and remember: God is the One who moves mountains, not you. He is faithful, and He is working even when you cannot see it. Instead of placing your faith in circumstances, people, or even your own ability, place it fully in Christ. Hold fast to Him, for He holds everything together.
